Procedure Deep Dive
Pediatric Upper Endoscopy (EGD)
A clear, careful look at the esophagus, stomach, and duodenum, with everything coordinated around your child.
Upper endoscopy, also called EGD, allows Dr. Mendez to directly examine the lining of the esophagus, stomach, and the first part of the small intestine, and to take biopsies when needed.
We recommend EGD only when the answers will meaningfully change your child's plan, and we coordinate every step so families feel supported from the pre-op visit through the results call.
Conditions & concerns we address
Reflux & GERD Workup
When reflux is severe, persistent, or not responding to treatment.
Eosinophilic Esophagitis
Biopsies are the only way to diagnose and monitor EoE accurately.
Celiac Disease Confirmation
Duodenal biopsies remain the gold standard when serologies suggest celiac.
Abdominal Pain Evaluation
When upper GI inflammation, ulcers, or H. pylori are on the differential.
Swallowing Difficulty
Evaluation of dysphagia, food impactions, and esophageal narrowing.
Therapeutic Procedures
Foreign body removal, dilation, and targeted treatments when indicated.
